Gary Mills 1970 Camaro The Project: Detroit Speed will be bringing the Camaro up to DSE standards for fit and finish and installing a 6 speed transmission along with our DSE Hydroformed Subframe and QUADRAlink™ Rear Suspension.

Moe’s 1970 Chevelle  The Project: The Chevelle was brought to us in pretty good shape. We will start by disassembling the car, installing a supercharged LS engine, a custom instrument cluster and interior followed by our DSE suspension goodies including our front and rear A-Body Speed Kit 3.

Gordon McGilton’s Chevy II The Project: This will be a complete build. The car will be stripped, sand blasted and will have custom body work completed. After that is completed the car will be fitted with numerous Detroit Speed Chevy II parts.

Angelo Vespi’s 1969 CamaroThe Project: This will be a complete turn-key build for DSE. This will receive all the Detroit Speed parts, including the Hydroformed Subframe, the QUADRALink™, Deep Tubs and much more. This car will also have some custom one-off pieces that will truly make a unique 1969 Camaro.

Randy Fricke’s 1969 CamaroThe Project: This project was brought to us as a full painted rolling chassis. We will take over the build and follow through until completion. This included wiring, plumbing, and building an exhaust. We will also be finishing the custom interior.

Kyle Tucker Captures the Vendor Autocross in the 1963 Chevy II Test Car

Mooresville, NC The first wave of Detroit Speed busy September show season is in the books and Detroit Speed brought back some souvenirs from the events. Kyle Tucker, driving the DSE 1963 Chevy II Test Car, won the Vendor autocross as well as an exciting Super Sunday autocross.

The weather was fantastic and the crowds were large out at Kansas Speedway for another great Goodguys show. The DSE 1963 Chevy II Test Car was out in full force on the autocross and rarely made a run without taking a customer along for the ride in the passenger seat. Kyle won the Vendor autocross in the Chevy II and also captured the top time of the weekend.

Sunday at Goodguys was a “Super Sunday” where people could bring any American powered car out to the show. This concluded with a Super Sunday autocross where Kyle Tucker and Kevin Millar ran exact times around the autocross and went to a one lap shootout to declare the victor. Kyle managed to take the shootout by the slimmest of margins. Congrats to Kevin Miller for a close run in the Sunday Shootout and for his win in the Street Machine class. We would also like to congratulate Donnie Freise winning the Street Rod class and Tyler Gibson in the truck class

Kyle Tucker Takes the Autocross at Bowler’s Day at the Strip

Mooresville, NC – Detroit Speedrolled into Lawrenceville, Illinois the week after pounding the pavement in the Test Cars at the Goodguys Columbus show. If the Test Cars thought they were getting a break, they were wrong. Especially the DSE 1963 Chevy II Test Car. The Chevy II made quite a remarkable journey, driving from Mooresville to Columbus from Columbus to Lawrenceville, where it was beat on in the autocross, and then from Lawrenceville to DSE in Mooresville. It was a hot weekend but that didn’t stop the crowds from coming out as there were over 185 vehicles that showed up to participate. Kyle & Stacy Tucker came out and beat on the Test Cars hard and ended up walking away with the Autocross win in the 1970 Camaro Test Car.

Saturday started off with a cruise-in and car registrations. Following all the formalities the autocross fired up. Over 50 cars participated in the autocross with most cars getting around 20-30 runs in during the day! Stacy Tucker running her 1969 Camaro Test Car and Kyle in the 1970 Camaro Test Car ran great times all day. Stacy, Kyle and Brian Finch battled back and forth but in the end it was Kyle holding on for the top time in the competition and eventually bringing home the award. After all the autocross action and the Speed Stop Challenge, which was won by Jeff Scott and his 1992 Typhoon, everybody gave their rides a bit of a break and took a nice cruise through Lawrenceville to the Lawrenceville Drive-In for dinner, free ice-cream, a raffle and lots of great prizes.

Sunday got started off with quarter mile passes that ran from 10AM – 12PM in the morning and then right after lunch from 1PM – 3PM. Congrats to the owner of the 1940 Ford “Helter Skelter” for winning the top speed and fastest time trophies. After all was said and done, the awards were handed out, and everybody stuffed from the Detroit Speed sponsored BBQ dinner that served over 400 people, the sun went down on another great “Day at the Strip” presented by Bowler.

Due to the remarkable turnout, Bowler was able to donate $1000.00 to the Lawrence County United Fund and another $1000 to the Lawrence County American Cancer Society. Thanks to all the sponsors who made this event possible, we had a great time and we look forward to seeing everybody back next year.
