The DSE Test Cars Run Wild at the 2012 LS Fest

Mooresville, NC– Despite a little visit from some rain on Saturday morning, this was one of the best Holley LS Fest’s yet! It was a full three day weekend of corner carving around the autocross, burning rubber on the drag strip and flying down the straightaway during Baer’s Speed Stop Challenge. And if that isn’t enough there was also a countryside cruise, a show-n-shine contest, an engine swap challenge and much more.

 

Friday morning started out with some beautiful weather and the team at Detroit Speed dove in early with Kyle Tucker, Stacy Tucker and Matt all qualifying for the Chevy High Performance High Noon Shootout on the autocross. Kyle, driving the DSE 1970 Camaro Test Car led the way for Detroit Speed by posting the top time and winning the shootout. Stacy was not far behind finishing in 3rd place in the DSE 1969 Camaro Test Carright behind 2nd place finisher, Brian Finch and his DSE “Equipped” 1971 Camaro.

 

With all three events running each day, there were plenty of runs to be had out there and Kyle, Stacy and Matt took full advantage putting in as many runs as they could. Friday afternoon finally gave way to Friday evening and the Countryside cruise. This was a great chance to unwind a little after the day’s action and take a nice drive through the rolling hills of Western Kentucky. The best part of this cruise was the fact that Stacy managed not to meet the local law enforcement during
the drive.

 

The weather Saturday morning wasn’t as friendly as the day before but the DSE team took full advantage of it by replacing the clutch that was almost totally worn out in the DSE 1970 Camaro Test Car. Thanks again to everyone at Holley for their hospitality during the clutch change. After all the rain pushed through; Kyle, Stacy and Matt took full advantage of the time they had and were able to put in a good amount of runs in at all three events.

 

Before you knew it, it was Sunday, and Sunday was the final shootout. The shootout consisted of the top five autocross participants. Kyle had the field covered and finished first with the help of his BFG KDW’s that gripped the track all weekend long. Brian Finch in his DSE “Equipped” 1971 Camaro Finished 3rd. Brian, with his remarkable consistency throughout the weekend, was named Grand Champion. Although he didn’t win an event he was right there at the top in all three. Congrats Brian, way to go!

 

We would also like to congratulate Jeff Cleary and his 1967 Corvette. Jeff was chosen for the Spirit of the Event winner that qualified him for the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge after SEMA. And let’s not forget Bob Bertlesen in his DSE “Equipped” 1971 Camaro, Bob won Best of Show during the car show section. The best part is that Bob beat on that Camaro hard all weekend long putting in multiple runs in every event. Way to go Bob, that’s what we like to see.

 

Thanks to everyone at Holley, they knocked another one out of the park this year and put on a fantastic event. We love this event, we love the fact that it keeps increasing in size and participants every year. We are already marking our calendars for next year.

And in typical Detroit Speed fashion, after the event was over, the crew jumped in the Chevy II and Bridget’s 1965 Chevy II Wagon and drove over 450 miles back to shop in Mooresville.
